Instructions for bleeding Oxygen into a PAP unit
Making the Connection
1. Attach the oxygen bleed-in adapter to the oxygen tubing. The oxygen tubing connects to a small opening at the base of the T-shaped adapter. The home medical equipment company should provide this adapter along with the oxygen system, if the oxygen is covered by the patient's insurance.
2. Connect the oxygen bleed-in adapter, with the oxygen tubing attached, to the air pressure outlet on the CPAP machine. The large opening on the adapter will fit directly onto the CPAP machine.
3. Attach the CPAP tubing to the other end of the bleed-in adapter. The CPAP tubing will fit directly onto the large opening opposite the end connected to the machine.
4. Connect the other end of the CPAP tubing to the mask. The oxygen will flow in through the adapter along with the air pressure from the CPAP machine.
5. Turn on the CPAP unit, and then turn on the oxygen system. According to Respironics Inc., the CPAP unit should never be powered on or off while oxygen is flowing into it.
